East Valley Authors is proud to present our 2011 Annual Query Contest!
A traditional submission package for a fiction project includes a query letter, a synopsis, and sample chapters. Is your submission package query ready? Do you have a great hook? Does your synopsis capture the major turning points on which the story revolves? Does your query capture the style and voice of your story? If so, you may be ready for this contest!
The contest is open to members in good standing of RWA National and who are not members of the East Valley Authors chapter. Writers who have not published or been contracted in book-length fiction (40,000 words or more) in the last five years may enter.
Entries will consist of a one-page query letter, a synopsis (no more than 5 pages), and an writing sample of the first 5 pages of the manuscript (not to be used for judging purposes). We will begin accepting entries on July 15, 2011. The contest deadline is September 15, 2011.
All entries will need to be submitted electronically using our Official Entry Form. Manuscripts may then be sent as Word (.doc) attachments to contest@eastvalleyauthors.com.
Be sure to review our Official Rules for guidelines regarding the formatting and submitting of your entry.
The entry fee is $15.
Each entry will be assigned three first-round judges. The scores will be averaged for a preliminary score and the top three overall scores will become finalists.
The finalist entries will be read and judged by Sue Grimshaw of Bantam Dell/Random House, Inc. Winners will be announced on/about December 15, 2011 and be awarded prizes:
